Keighan's New Room

Jeff and I have been going back and forth practically the whole pregnancy deciding whether or not to switch Keighan to the bigger room or to keep him in his current room and put Baby in the new room.  Keighan is such a creature of habit and it's really hard to get him in to a new routine that we decided to keep him in the nursery and spruce it up in to a big boy room and change the big room from a guest room to a new nursery.  Well, we cleaned out the guest room and stuck some of Keighan's toys in his room with him and it was a disaster.  How did this kid accumulate such large toys that take up so much room?!  There was basically no extra room in Keighan's room and the nursery was completely empty except for a crib and a dresser.  It didn't make sense. So after much consideration, we decided to just switch Keighan over.  He was having an awful time adjusting to being back from vacation that we might as well throw him for another loop, right?!

So, we started slowly.  We put up a poster that I made for his second birthday party on the door of the new room.  He was kind of ok with that, he wanted it back on his door but he let me keep it on the other door.  Oh, boy.  Because Keighan runs a million degrees hotter than every other person on the planet, we had to install a ceiling fan before making any switches.  He liked that because he remembered when Jeff installed the one in his other room so long ago.  Keighan's all about home improvement projects.  So that was a step in the right direction.  We then moved in some of his toys-- his kitchen and his train table.  We decided that he would sleep in the new crib we bought for baby because his original crib was much nicer anyway and we thought it would be silly to take down two cribs just to switch the rooms they were in.  We also moved in the glider and nightstand into his new room as he still likes to be rocked and be sung to before he sleeps.  That's okay for now since Baby will be rooming in with me for a while and I won't need the glider quite yet.  I have no clue how we will transition away from that though, Keighan loves it so much and again it is such an important part of his routine.  Finally, we put up Thomas the Train decals all over his room which he absolutely loved but thought they were stickers and wanted to put them on himself and would get very frustrated when we didn't share them with him.  I gave him some real Thomas stickers and of course he wanted to put those on his wall.  So, we had to teach him what can and can't go on the wall.  I'm not convinced that someday I'll walk in there and not find stickers all over his walls.

Anyway, here is some pics of his new "choo choo" room.  He still kind of thinks his old room is his room but if we say, "Let's go to Keighan's choo choo room." He's okay with that.  It took a little transitioning with sleeping as well, but like I said in a previous post, his sleeping has been atrocious.  So it really hasn't mattered.

The room before: bare except for a crib and dresser

And after.  Ignore any messy areas.  I wasn't about to clean just to take pictures.  The curtains will be changed as well.  Just haven't gotten there so that's why there is weird stuff going on with the window.
